It won't be a problem to find a nice cafe or restaurant in Lübeck when you just wander around the historic city center. There is a huge variety of beautiful places for everyone.

The most important speciality Lübeck is famous for throughout the world is the "Lübecker Marzipan". This popular sweet has its origin in the Middle Ages.
Famous places where marzipan is produced, are the confectioneries Niederegger and Carstens.

In the Cafe Niederegger opposite Lübeck's City Hall, you should visit the "Marzipansalon" where you learn more about the history and the manufacturing process of this delicious sweet. Marzipan is quite often served with a special kind of red wine, the "Rotspon". Now, there also exists the version made of white wine, the "Wittspon". Another popular local sweet dish is for example the "Plettenpudding". When you prefer something solid to sweets, you should try the "Lübecker National", a stew of vegetables and beef.
