Museum for Theatre Figures
(Puppentheatermuseum)

 
Not far away from the Holstentor and the church St. Peter is Lübeck's "Puppentheatermuseum" in a narrow side street, the "Kolk".

This private collection of theater figures and puppets is not only a pleasure for children: more than thousand figures of all kinds including for example marionettes and glove puppets as well as whole theaters are displayed in this great collection covering more than three centuries and continents (Europe, Africa, Asia).

Luebeck Holstentor  
The landmark of Lübeck, the Holstentor, also houses a museum dealing with the Lübeck's history, the City History Museum.

Marzipan-Salon

In 1999, the Marzipan Salon upstairs in the Cafe Niederegger opposite Lübeck's City Hall was opened. The small museum deals with Lübeck's most famous sweet, the marzipan. E.g. you get to know something about the history and the manufacturing process of marzipan. The highlight are 12 life-size marzipan figures representing famous people of Lübeck.

Luebeck Niederegger Marzipan

 


Buddenbrook House

In the Buddenbrook House, the former home of the famous German author Thomas Mann, the "Heinrich- und Thomas-Mann-Zentrum" was opened in 1991. In addition to permanent exhibitions dealing with the familiy of Thomas Mann, there are carried out temporary exhibitions, readings and workshops.

Günter-Grass House

Another forum for literature that was opened in 2002 is the Günter-Grass House in Lübeck. As the famous German author Günter Grass, however, is not only a writer, but also a sculptor and graphic designer, the Günter-Grass House deals with sculptural arts as well.

St. Annen Museum / Art Gallery St. Annen

In 1915, a museum dealing with arts as well as the history of arts was opened in the monastery St. Annen in Lübeck's historic city center. The exhibitions include Germany's most important collection of carved altars as well as liturgical clothes and devices from the Middle Ages.
On the area of the former church St. Annen, there is the arts gallery St. Annen (Kunsthalle St. Annen) now. The exhibitions carried out in this modern building deal with arts from the 20th century as well as contemporary arts. In addition, temporary exhibitions take place regularly.
